RCA Begins Early Shipments of New Stereo Video Disc Player

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., July 16 -- RCA has begun shipping a deluxe stereo video disc
player more than a month ahead of the original August schedule due to
distributor and dealer demand for the new model.

Introduced in May, the SGT250 player features electronic function controls and
an infrared remote control, the first such model in RCA's line of four
VideoDisc players. The SGT250 carries an optional retail price of $449.95,
while the company's basic monaural player is optionally retail priced at
$299.95.

Arnold T. Valencia, President of the RCA Sales Corporation, said trade demand
for the deluxe stereo player "was an encouraging indication of strong dealer
interest in the new stereo capability of RCA's VideoDisc system." RCA's other
stereo player, without remote control, carries an optional retail price of
$399.95.

Mr. Valencia said RCA plans to sharply increase its production schedule on the
new SGT250 model.

^Talk about CED still having a following...A "CED
^Service Alignment Disc" just went for $127.50 on Ebay
^(auction #1545209956). While I am sure this is a
^valuable tool for someone who knows what they are doing
^it's a lot of money for a CED disc (sure hope it is in
^good condition). This item had 43 bids! If the high
^bidder is in this mailing list we would love to hear
^from him and he can tell us about this service disc.
^Glenn Bennett

I noticed this auction too. Did you see where the seller posted "Never
Before Seen On eBay"? Not true. I purchased one on there about 4
months ago. Bidding started at $5.00 and I won it at $97.51. Some
time ago, I think in February, I found an SKT-400 *New In Box*. Auction
ended with me as the winner at $571.00 (That's Five-Hundred-Seventy-One
dollars). I won by a mere three dollars. In the past year and a half,
(these two recent purchases included), I've spent close to $2,000 on CED
stuff alone ever since coming to Tom's webpage. Wanna know what started
it all for me? Well, I'm a fan of any technology 80's. I saw the 1981
fanfare that they put in front of all <1981 CED's and after that, I was
hooked. Not to mention that I am OBCESSED with the "needlevision"
thing. The fact that you can get a COLOR motion PICTURE from a needle
and groove with 60 mins per side at CAV just blows me away. I have quite
a few of the "Very Rare" and a few of the "Extremely Rare" discs posted
on Tom's site. So yea, I'd say that there is definitely still a
following.
Tom - Question: On your site you have a .MOV file of the SFT-100
Operation (The one with the guy narrating and they show 20,000 Leagues
Under The Sea as the demonstration) I'm curious: What CED did this
demonostration/operation instructions come from? Was it a Television
commercial? Or a CED ? I'm curious, I'd really like to have that disc,
or have the video in high-quality .MPG format.... Please lemme know
man.
pEacE and Namaste to all the CED collectors out there that are still
spending money, and collecting discs. *MANY THANX* to Tom Howe! He
Rocks.

I have a bunch of of capacitance electonic laser discs, but my player broke. I
took it to a shop to have it fixed (before the proliferation of the internet),
and they "lost" it. Anyways, i was wondering if it would be possible to get a
system that will play all the vintage laser discs i have. Any help help you
can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Travis
